Penn Wood students create anti-bullying app
YEADON A group of Penn Wood High School students have created their own mobile app to report and prevent bullying.
The app, developed through a competition sponsored by State Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams (D., Phila.), will launch Friday.
The "Fear No Bully" app will allow students to report bullying by sending messages from their phones. School districts can appoint teachers or administrators to monitor the submissions, and the app also contains anti-bullying information.
The winning Penn Wood team included seniors Dagmawe Berhanu, Iris Freely, Allyn Johnson, and Giselle Marston, and juniors Earl Johnson and Danny Santos. Each of the students received an iPad.
Williams will visit Penn Wood on Friday afternoon as the app becomes available for download on Android devices. It is expected to be available through Apple in the next several days, said Jamar Izzard, a spokesman for Williams.
