Law enforcement officials to promote pre-K education

COLLEGEVILLE Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, two police chiefs, and several county legislators are scheduled to visit the Collegeville Play and Learn center on Thursday to highlight the value of early learning for children.

Part of the "Pre-K for PA" campaign, the visit is intended to promote the idea that investing in high-quality early education can help at-risk children succeed, reduce special education costs and the likelihood that children will go on to commit crimes, and save taxpayer dollars through reduced prison and other costs.

According to the campaign organizers, despite increasing state funding for pre-K students, 66 percent of the county's approximately 19,320 3- and 4-year-old children do not have access to quality pre-k education.
