Chesco trail network continues to grow

EXTON The completion of a key segment of the Chester Valley Trail that opened last week is drawing praise from the state's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Chester County officials.

Hundreds of thousands of people use the trail each year, according to county officials. The project is part of an expansion of the region's trail network, which officials hope will eventually connect 750 miles of trails in the Philadelphia area.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources invested $500,000 in the latest section of the Chester County portion of the trail, which will eventually extend 18.5 miles.

Ellen Ferretti, secretary of the department, said the trails will connect people to different towns, natural resources, and businesses, and present "endless possibilities."

The third and latest phase of the trail stretches 1.2 miles from Exton Park to Iron Lake Boulevard in Exton. It connects parts of the trail on both sides of Route 100 and provides better access from neighborhoods.

The latest completion brings the Chester County part of the trail to about 13.5 miles, starting from west of Route 100 in Exton and extending east toward the Montgomery County line. - Michaelle Bond
