Gore takes over at Heinz wildlife refuge

TINICUM John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge has a new leader.

Lamar Gore, a New Jersey native, will start Friday as refuge manager of the center.

Gore has been with the working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 23 years. He has worked as a biologist at several national wildlife refuges, including Attleboro National Fish Hatchery in Massachusetts and the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey. In 2003, Gore worked on migratory bird conservation at the Northeast regional office of the service. Three years later, he was named assistant refuge supervisor with the National Wildlife Refuge System, with which he served for a year as acting chief of the Office of Diversity and Civil Rights in the Northeast regional office.

Gore said he hoped to work on a number of initiatives to "engage urban youth and adults alike."

Gore replaces Gary Stolz, who retired in May after 33 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
