A BUILDING in North Philly was evacuated and shuttered for an hour-and-a-half yesterday after an art student's theater prop was mistaken for an explosive device, police said.

The prop, a series of short tubes that were duct-taped together, was placed behind the building, on Pearl Street near 12th, near its trash bins, according to investigators.

A passerby noticed the prop just before 10:30 a.m. and notified police. Bomb Squad officers declared the scene safe just before noon after investigating the device.
