Cops: Driver in fatal crash tested for DUI

INVESTIGATORS last night were probing a fatal crash in Northeast Philly that may have been caused by a drunk driver, according to police.

Just after 3 a.m., a male pedestrian was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder as he walked on Academy Road near Morrell Avenue, according to a police spokesman.

The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Pathfinder, a 29-year-old woman, was taken into custody for DUI testing, according to police. She remained in custody last night, pending the results of those tests.

Though the disabled SUV was still at the scene in the wake of the crash, it was unclear if its driver fled after striking the victim, police said.
