Festival of lights, boat parade, and fireworks
BURLINGTON CITY Burlington City's annual Festival of Lights boat parade and fireworks will be on the promenade from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
Earlier in the day, the promenade is expected to be bustling with food vendors, a live band, clowns, face-painting, children's rides, and other family amusements, starting at 3 p.m.
The event, held each summer for more than 15 years, often attracts about 20,000 people, according to Chris Seiler, who heads the Greater Burlington Chamber of Commerce. Burlington Automotive is the event sponsor.
Decorated and lighted boats - usually 10 or more - will parade on the Delaware River, just off the promenade, and will be judged.
Up to $600 in cash prizes and a trophy will be awarded, according to the Festival of Lights 2014 Facebook Page.
"People come from all over," Seiler said. "We have one of the best fireworks displays around.
"We set them off from the island," she said, referring to an unoccupied island off the northern part of the city.
The rain date is Sunday. More information is available on the Facebook page and at http://www.greaterburlingtonchamber.org.
