Free meals available to Chester children
Free meals for Chester children
CHESTER The Chester Housing Authority is serving meals to children this summer through a new, federally funded program.
The housing authority began serving breakfast and lunch last week to children who live in its buildings in Chester.
Young said the program is important because it continues the meals that low-income students receive during the school year.
"And the kids, they love it," she said. "They really love the meals, and they come on out."
The Chester Housing Authority began the program with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Chester Housing Authority residents under age 18 can receive breakfast and lunch this summer, Monday through Friday, at three locations: the Booker T. Washington Community Center on Central Avenue, the Ruth L. Bennett Community Center on Seventh Street, and the William Penn Community Center on Union Street.
Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
