Widener soccer coach nominated for service award

CHESTER Widener University men's soccer coach Brent Jacquette has been nominated in the Major League Soccer Works Community MVP contest.

CHESTER Widener University men's soccer coach Brent Jacquette has been nominated in the Major League Soccer Works Community MVP contest.

Jacquette was nominated by the Union pro soccer team, which plays at PPL Field. He has been involved with the free after-school program Soccer for Success, which addresses health and behavior issues through soccer.

Jacquette involved his college players with Friends of Jaclyn, an organization that pairs children with brain tumors with college sports teams, and they helped raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand.

He also founded Get Ahead Soccer to develop youth soccer programs, camps, and clinics.

The winner of the MLS contest receives a $10,000 donation to the charity of their choice and an all-expense-paid trip to the MLS All-Star Game on Aug. 6 in Portland, Ore.
