Southbound Route 202 lanes to reopen

A new segment of the ongoing project to widen four miles of Route 202 to six lanes will open this weekend, the state Department of Transportation announced in a statement.

The finished stretch is the southbound lanes from Swedesford Road to Route 401 in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland Townships.

"On this project, this is a major, major milestone for us," PennDot spokesman Charles Metzger said.

The project has been underway since April 2011, Metzger said.

Traffic will be shifted onto the southbound lanes at 8 p.m. Friday. At that time, crews will also reopen the southbound Route 202 off-ramp to Route 29 south in Malvern, which has been closed since mid-May. - Tricia L. Nadolny
