Historic farmhouse for rent by trust
WEST CHESTER When Morris Stroud, upon his death, gifted 332 acres in rural Chester County to the Natural Lands Trust, the agreement included a stipulation that his daughter could remain in the family's 1740 homestead.
Twenty-four years later, that relative - Marion Boulton "Kippy" Stroud, founder of the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia - has moved out. And the rare farmhouse has been put up for rent by the Natural Lands Trust.
The home, which has five bedrooms and 41/2 baths, is located on the 571-acre Stroud Preserve in West Chester and faces south overlooking a tributary of the Brandywine Creek.
"Remarkably, the view of gently rolling hills and woodlands is much the same today as it was nearly 275 years ago, thanks to the permanent protection of a conservation easement on the land," the Natural Lands Trust said in a statement.
The home is renting for $4,000 a month. An open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 2. Inquiries can be made to Scott Wendle, vice president of preserve stewardship, at 610-353-5587, Ext. 314, or swendle@natlands.org.
