Healthy cooking classes to be offered in July

CHESTER Beginning Tuesday, Chester's nonprofit grocery store will offer free "health shopping tours" for customers during the month of July.

The store, Fare and Square, has partnered with the Food Trust, a nonprofit that opened in 1992, to teach shoppers how to cook healthy meals on a budget.

"We are really excited about the shopping tours," said Marlo DelSordo, a spokesperson for Philabundance, the hunger relief organization that opened Fare and Square in 2013.

On five consecutive Tuesdays, from 2 to 3 p.m., a Food Trust nutritionist will provide tips on how to make more nutritious recipes, stretch ingredients to prepare more healthy meals, purchase quality ingredients at low cost, and cook healthier. Themes will include produce, grains, dairy and proteins. Easy recipes will be available in the store to sample.

For more information, go to www.fareandsquare.org or call 484-483-2500.

DelSordo said the store also plans more events for members to help improve the quality of their health and give them access to related services.
