Two YMCA branches to consolidate

WEST CHESTER The YMCA of the Brandywine Valley and the YMCA of the Upper Main Line announced last week they will merge into a new association that will serve most of Chester County, called the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, effective Jan. 1.

Members of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, which the organization estimates will total more than 80,000, will be able to use any of nine locations in Coatesville, West Grove, West Chester, Kennett Square, Exton, Atglen, Berwyn and Malvern. The consolidation will not raise membership fees, according to the organizations.

The national YMCA has been encouraging collaboration among local branches so they can save money through group purchasing and staff training, said Denise Day, president of the two Chester County YMCA organizations.

"We'll have the ability to look at new services that our communities may need," Day said.
