Survival and emergency preparedness classes to start in Chesco

Survival and emergency preparedness classes to start

EXTON Chester County is hoping to draw people to its survival and emergency preparedness classes this summer by enticing them to join the "Chester County Zombie Response Team."

The county library has been marketing the series of courses, which start Thursday evening, using the popularity of zombie television shows and movies. Although the county has offered survival training in the past, this is the first time the library has put them together in a series.

People of all ages have signed up for the classes, according to the library.

"I think some people think we're a little crazy," said Kristen Cassidy, the library's program coordinator and a fan of the TV show The Walking Dead. During the survival course series, people will learn first aid, wilderness skills, and how to prepare for emergencies.

"But to keep it fun, we will address some zombie scenarios," Cassidy said.

Thursday's class is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Chester County Library and will teach participants how to create an emergency plan. Four more courses, all covering different topics, will follow later this summer.
