Money raised for Springfield Montco student

Money raised for Springfield student

ERDENHEIM A partnership with a shoe-recycling company raised more than $900 Saturday for a Springfield middle-school student fighting cancer.

Springfield residents donated more than 1,860 pounds of reusable shoes in four hours. Community Recycling pays 50 cents per pound to groups that partner with the company's shoe-recycling program, company spokesman Stephen Castrianni said.

The money will go to help cover medical bills for Colin Delaney, an eighth grader at Springfield Middle School who has leukemia.

"It was one of the most successful single-day events that we've done," Castrianni said of the collection for Delaney.

Community Recycling, based in Bucks County, recycles shoes by sending them to micro-entrepreneurial marketplaces around the world, Castrianni said.

The fund-raiser will continue through the end of June, at shoe-collection locations around Springfield Township.
