Strath Haven students to volunteer on service day

WALLINGFORD Strath Haven High School seniors will participate in the 15th annual service day on Thursday.

Organized by Unity Center Inc., the program places students at nonprofit organizations around Delaware County for a day of volunteer work.

"This program allows graduating seniors a chance to get out and volunteer throughout the county, expanding their world view," said Erica Weihermuller, who coordinates the annual program for the Media-based Unity Center.

When the senior service day began in 1999, 20 students participated. It grew to 170 students participating in the voluntary program in 2013.

On Thursday, about 25 Strath Haven seniors will volunteer at Wallingford Community Arts, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Prospect Park, Taylor Memorial Arboretum in Nether Providence, and Haven Arts at Strath Haven High School. The students will volunteer at their sites from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
