No-contest plea in pet-cruelty case

The owner of Grace Kelly's childhood home pleaded no contest Thursday to animal-cruelty charges for keeping multiple cats and a dog in unsanitary conditions, the Pennsylvania SPCA said Thursday.

The owner of Grace Kelly's childhood home pleaded no contest Thursday to animal-cruelty charges for keeping multiple cats and a dog in unsanitary conditions, the Pennsylvania SPCA said Thursday.

Marjorie Bamont, 82, was convicted in December of 14 counts of animal cruelty. She did not appear in court and appealed the conviction.

Bamont appeared Thursday in Common Pleas Court but pleaded no contest rather than fighting the conviction, said Sarah Eremus, spokeswoman for the PSPCA.

Bamont is allowed to keep two cats with regular PSPCA inspections.

On Halloween, officers from the PSPCA executed a search warrant on the former Kelly mansion on Henry Avenue in East Falls and found a dead cat, 14 live cats, and a dog.

The house was littered with cat feces and infested with fleas, the PSPCA reported.
