Coatesville places assistant superintendent on leave

COATESVILLE The Coatesville Area School District has placed its assistant superintendent, Angelo Romaniello Jr., on administrative leave effective Tuesday.

The move is pending the outcome of an investigation by state, county, and district officials that started because of the district's texting scandal but is unrelated, the district said Tuesday.

District staff uncovered information that led to the suspension, but the district will not say why it suspended Romaniello because the investigation is ongoing, interim Superintendent Leonard Fitts said in a statement.

Until Fitts took over in October, Romaniello served for a couple of months as acting superintendent after the texting scandal that resulted in the resignations of Superintendent Richard Como and athletic director James Donato at the start of the school year.

Fitts said the district was cooperating with authorities and plans to give a full report to the community in the future.

"We ask for the community's patience and understanding until the investigation is completed and all the facts are known," he said.
