Tollefson, charged in alleged charity fraud, to be released from prison

A BUCKS County judge has agreed to release former Philadelphia TV sports anchor Don Tollefson from prison so he can enter a drug-and-alcohol treatment center as he awaits a preliminary hearing on charges that he fleeced more than 100 people out of about $100,000 and misled several charities.

Tollefson, 61, who reportedly has fought an addiction to prescription painkillers, has been locked up for about a month, unable to post bail. Prosecutors say the felony charges filed in February likely cover only a small percentage of his alleged victims. His lawyers have said he had no criminal intent. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 29.
