ELKINS PARK Children at Elkins Park School are counting down the days until they are to perform alongside local mother and disco and soul singer Kathy Sledge on Friday at 7 p.m. to raise money for the school's music program.

The benefit at the school is scheduled to open with music from Up the Octave, the Elkins Park female a capella troupe, and be rounded out with a performance by Mike Kwas, the school's choir director, who has been performing with Sledge since 2004.

Sledge, the lead singer of Sister Sledge, the group best known for the song "We are Family," said she raised both of her children in the Cheltenham school district and appreciates the schools' music programs.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. The school is at 8149 New Second St., Elkins Park. - Inquirer staff
