Memorial service in New York Monday for playwright Leslie Lee

A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon in New York City for Leslie Lee, a Tony-nominated playwright who died Jan. 20 of congestive heart failure.

Lee, who was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Bryn Mawr, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his master's degree from Villanova University. His plays included The First Breeze of Summer, Colored People's Time, and Blues in a Broken Tongue.

Monday's service begins at 3 p.m. at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 W. 42d Street, New York. The Negro Ensemble Company will host the service with Signature Theatre.

The service is free and open to the public.
