Fund-raising continues for Media library

Fund-raising for new Media library

MEDIA Board members of the Media-Upper Providence Library say their building needs an update. If their fund-raising efforts continue, construction of a new building could begin within 12 months.

The new library would replace the building at its current site on East Front Street in Media. The old library's layout, with five old houses "cobbled together," does not suit its needs, said library board president Marie Sciocchetti.

The group unveiled architectural designs for the building at an invitation-only event for donors Sunday. Site plans will go before the Media Borough Council on Thursday for approval.

Sciocchetti said the group had raised nearly half its $3 million goal. Funding is expected to come from a $500,000 state grant, private donors, Media Borough, and Upper Providence Township. - Laura McCrystal
