Lansdale Catholic robotics team wins first round
LANSDALE The robotics team at Lansdale Catholic High School won the Mid-Atlantic Robotics (MAR) district first-round competition March 2 at Hatboro-Horsham High School, and members aren't wasting time getting ready for the next round.
"They're pumped. . . . We did it," said Frank Larkin, who helps coach the team. "We hadn't won an event like this. We've won awards, but not been finalists. . . ."
If the team reaches its points goal of 55 in the second round of MAR districts March 23 at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, Burlington County, it will advance to the MAR regional finals April 10-12 at Lehigh University. The recent victory gave the members 43 points, the team said.
"A lot of the decisions we made were good, and now we have to just execute and modify to make it even better," Larkin said. "We think we're in pretty good shape."
The FIRST national finals ("For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology") are set for April 23-26 in St. Louis, but Lansdale Catholic may not be able to attend due to a lack of funding. - Clark Mindock
