Bridge work to start in Delco

Work set on historic bridge

MIDDLETOWN TWP. The bridge will retain its historic character, but crews soon will begin repair work on a structurally deficient span over Chester Creek in Middletown Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Monday.

Construction on the stone arch bridge at Knowlton Road, scheduled to begin March 24, is expected to take approximately two months and cost about $183,000, officials said.

Knowlton Road will be closed, and traffic detoured during the project, as crews work to restore the deteriorating bridge walls, reinforce the foundation, and install new guard rails.

The bridge will still keep its historic appearance, and listing in the National Register of Historic Places, officials said. - Mari A. Schaefer
