New members for Montco civil rights council

NORRISTOWN The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission has appointed seven new members and a new chairman to its Montgomery County Advisory Council, the commission announced Tuesday.

The Rev. Charles W. Quann, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Spring House, was nominated by fellow council members to serve as chairman. The post rotates annually.

The new members are the Rev. Alex Aimette of Abington Baptist Church; the Rev. Jerome Coleman of First Baptist Church of Crestmont in Willow Grove; Mary Pat Kessler, a human relations executive from Abington; Susan Silverman LaDuca, a family therapist from Huntingdon Valley; Christopher McGinley, the outgoing superintendent of Lower Merion schools; Karen Weaver, an associate professor at Drexel University; and Barbara J. Williams, a consultant from Roslyn.

The commission is a nonpartisan agency that promotes and enforces the state's anti-discrimination laws. The local council is one of seven panels that act as community liaisons for the commission and raise awareness about local civil rights issues. - Jessica Parks
