Cozzone to run for state Senate
Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone announced this week that she will run for the state Senate, becoming the second of the three commissioners to announce bids for higher office.
A Democrat, Cozzone, the commissioners' vice chair, will run to replace Republican State Sen. John Rafferty to represent the 44th District, which includes parts of Chester, Berks, Montgomery and Lebanon Counties.
Rafferty has represented the district since 2003. Cozzone said it's time for new leadership.
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to represent the people not just of Chester County but of Southeastern Pennsylvania in the Senate," Cozzone said. She is serving her second term as a commissioner, which runs through 2015.
Commissioner Ryan Costello, a Republican, announced last month that he would run to represent the Sixth Congressional District after Rep. Jim Gerlach (R., Pa.) said he would not run again.
