Youth Center employees reach deal

NORRISTOWN Montgomery County commissioners approved a three-year contract Friday with employees of the county Youth Center.

The contract provides 2.5 percent pay increases to the center's 34 youth advocates. The employees agreed to increase their health-care contributions to about 8 percent.

The contract also calls for a pilot program in which the advocates will work 12-hour shifts at the Juvenile Detention Center, similar to what happens at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

The SEIU Local 668 contract had expired in June. The new deal covers through 2016.

The county's finance director said the raises will total about $27,000, and were accounted for in the 2014 budget.

The county recently began negotiations with the probation, parole, and domestic relations officers union. Talks with the prison guards, who unionized in December, have yet to begin, officials said.
