Volunteers needed for Chester County homeless census
Volunteers needed for count of homeless
WEST CHESTER Chester County's annual one-night census of the homeless will take place on Jan. 29, and coordinators are looking for volunteers to help in the count.
Volunteers would be assigned a designated area - such as West Chester, Coatesville, Oxford, Kennett Square, or Phoenixville - to canvas during two-hour shifts from either 10 p.m. to midnight or 12:30 to 2:30 a.m., according to a release from the Chester County Department of Community Development.
The Point in Time Count is a national effort sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
In 2013, the survey found 625 people were homeless in Chester County on the night of the count, 43 of whom were without emergency or transitional shelters. The number was down from 666 in 2012, according to a county news release.
