Red Cross looks to expand successful Bucks County program
Red Cross looks
DOYLESTOWN The American Red Cross is hoping to expand a program that had success in Bucks County to other parts of the region.
The program - Reaching Elders and Seniors With Preparedness Education Concepts and Tools (RESPECT) - is designed to help prepare seniors for natural disasters, such as snowstorms or hurricanes, according to program director Mike Kiley-Zufelt.
It began in Philadelphia in 2012, Kiley-Zufelt said, but was staged in eight Bucks County towns over the last several months. The Bucks sessions, he said, attracted more than 150 participants.
Now the Red Cross is looking to expand to other counties in the region, he said. It has not yet scheduled any sessions for the new year.
The program offers courses that provide planning guidance and tips for building preparedness kits, Kiley-Zufelt said.
"We just try to impress upon them how important it is to think about disasters," he said. - Chris Palmer
