Hearings continue for proposed Wawa store in Cheltenham
CHELTENHAM A zoning hearing for a proposed Wawa on Route 309 is stretching into its seventh month, with residents expressing concerns about noise, traffic, and crime.
Goodman Properties wants to build a 5,585-square-foot Wawa convenience store and 16-pump gas station on a 3.65-acre plot bordering Ogontz Avenue, Limekiln Pike, MacDonald Avenue, and Clubhouse Lane. But that would require zoning changes as the site is currently intended for a hotel, offices, or apartments.
The site is close to the Wyngate Townhomes, where a group of homeowners has hired an attorney to fight the proposed zoning changes.
The Cheltenham Zoning Hearing Board heard more than two hours of testimony Monday night from the homeowners' group. They also called in a Philadelphia real estate broker who told the board she would consider developing the site under its current zoning.
The next hearing is set for Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Curtis Hall.
