Officers hurt rescuing woman from S. Phila. fire
The blaze was reported at 6:22 p.m. in the 3200 block of Chaucer Street, a fire official said. It was declared under control at 7:28 p.m.
The two officers, assigned to the 17th District, were injured rescuing an 89-year-old woman who was trapped in the burning house, police said.
The officers were taken to Methodist Hospital, where they were in stable condition with cuts to their arms, police said. The woman was also taken to Methodist, where she was in good condition and declined medical treatment, police said.
Flames could be seen shooting through the roof of at least one three-story house. Three houses were damaged in the blaze.
The fire was under investigation Friday night.
Smoke from the fire was visible from Citizens Bank Park, where the Phillies were playing the New York Mets.
