WHO KNOWS, maybe the building had it coming.

Pharez Morris, a veteran Philadelphia police officer, was arrested Friday for allegedly firing 13 shots at a building in Logan while he was off duty last fall, the District Attorney's Office said.

Morris, 27, allegedly tried to cover his tracks by calling 9-1-1 after the bizarre incident and reporting that a shooting had occurred nearby.

The six-year veteran of the force was charged with recklessly endangering another person, possessing an instrument of crime, false alarms to agencies of public safety and false reports to law-enforcement authorities.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended him for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, police said. He is the 59th Philadelphia police officer to be arrested in the last four years.

The D.A.'s office said a witness saw Morris get out of a car on Rockland Street near Broad about 5 a.m. on Oct. 27, and then try to get into a nearby apartment building.

Morris was unable to enter, however, and then allegedly pulled out a handgun and started blasting in the direction of another property.

After the shooting, a woman let him into the apartment building.

The D.A. said Morris then allegedly called 9-1-1 and reported that "there's a person shot at 11th and Rockland. I heard a lot of shots, saw a man fall to the ground."

Morris, who worked in Ogontz's 35th District, surrendered to authorities on Friday.
