A Chester police officer shot and killed a 21-year-old man during a pursuit Friday night, according to authorities and a witness.

The officer was in a patrol car chasing the man on Crosby Street around 8 p.m. when he got out and ordered the man to stop in the first block of East 23d Street, said Jamil Torres, 20, a neighbor who said he was outside when the shooting occurred.

Torres said the officer alleged that the man, whom he knew only as "Pooh," was carrying a gun.

The man was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
