Letter carriers across the nation will collect nonperishable food items Saturday as part of the 19th annual Stamp Out Hunger drive.

Residents are asked to leave sturdy bags of nonperishable food items such as pasta, rice and canned vegetables next to their mailboxes Saturday. Letter carriers will pick up the donations during the regularly scheduled mail delivery. Donations will be distributed to area food banks and pantries. The annual event is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the U.S. Postal Service, Campbell Soup Co., and Feeding America. - Kristin E. Holmes
