Man charged in beating death of a 3-year-old

A 27-year-old Philadelphia man has been arrested in the beating death of a 3-year-old boy in Roxborough, according to Philadelphia police.

Joseph Zysk was being held at police headquarters Sunday night, awaiting arraignment on murder charges.

The victim, whose name police did not release, was found early Saturday morning at a home on Houghton Street in Roxborough. He was unresponsive and taken to nearby Roxborough Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m.

The city medical examiner performed an autopsy Saturday and ruled the death a homicide, resulting from a blunt-force trauma, police said.

Zysk gave his address to police as in the same block as where the victim was found. A woman who answered the phone where the victim was found declined to comment.
