Gloucester Township police said the 15-year-olds were robbed of $185 on Saturday shortly before 6:30 p.m. The stolen money included cash they earned shoveling driveways and a cash bank for change for the entrepreneurial venture after the storm that slammed South Jersey, police said.
"They're young adults doing something good for themselves and doing something good for their community," Deputy Chief Harry Earle said yesterday. "It's unfortunate that someone took advantage of these young men."
As of yesterday, Earle said, there had been no arrests.
On Saturday, the teenagers started shoveling between 3 and 3:30 p.m. in the Glendora section of the township, authorities said. Earle said the pair solicited work by knocking on doors in the neighborhood.
The teenagers, who were robbed in the 200 block of Chestnut Street, were ordered to lie facedown on the ground, authorities said.
Then, a robber holding what the teenagers believed was a knife emptied their pockets, officials said.
The robber wore a black ski mask and dark-colored jeans and jacket, and ran away toward Front Street, authorities said.
Anyone with information is asked to the call the Gloucester Township police anonymous crime tip line at 856-842-5560 or the department at 856-228-4500.
