Sometime between Tuesday night and yesterday morning, someone at a bank in Upper Darby apparently forgot to lock the door, giving new meaning to "open 24 hours."
Oops.
No worries. Nothing was missing, police say.
Around 9:10 yesterday morning, police received a call about a possible robbery at the M&T Bank at 824 Lansdowne Ave.
When they arrived, a customer was waiting outside. The man, who was trying to make a cash drop for his business, had entered through the unlocked back door. Seeing no one inside and the lights off, he called police. About the same time, the alarms went off.
"It sounds like the cleaning company just forgot to resecure the doors," Sgt. Scott Lewis said. He said police had found damp, freshly cleaned carpets inside.
There was no way to check with the bank yesterday for comment. It was closed - officially, anyway - for Veterans Day.
But M&T Bank does have security in mind.
According to its Web site, the 153-year-old bank has "a long-standing tradition of careful, conservative, and consistent management."
There's even a picture of a padlock on the Web site next to the question "Do you know how to keep your information secure?"
