An Elverson man has been charged after a fatal two-vehicle crash on Route 202 in West Whiteland Township, police said yesterday.
Brian O'Neill, 20, of the 200 block of Chestnut Tree Road, is charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and related traffic offenses in the Sept. 6 accident, which killed Diane Washington, 45, and George Parker, 47, both of Norristown.
West Whiteland police said a reconstruction of the 1:56 a.m. crash determined that O'Neill had been going in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes of Route 202 when his 2006 Dodge Dakota collided with the 1995 Suzuki Sidekick occupied by the victims.
Police said O'Neill, in trying to flee, jumped off the roadway and fell 35 feet onto a field. He was flown to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. A toxicology test showed that he had enough marijuana in his system at the time of the crash to make him unfit to drive, police said.
At yesterday's arraignment, bail was set at $50,000. O'Neill was released after posting 10 percent. - Inquirer staff
