Police are searching for a violent rapist who attacked and pummeled at least one woman - and possibly as many as three - last month in the Kensington Avenue area.
About 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 4, police discovered a 32-year-old woman beaten and unconscious on East Ontario Street near H, in Kensington, said Capt. John Darby of the Special Victims Unit.
She was taken to an area hospital, where it took her "quite a period of time" to recover from the severe facial fractures she suffered, he said.
Once alert and conscious, she told investigators that a man had pulled her into an alley, where he raped and beat her about the head and face.
Yesterday, she was able to provide detectives with enough information for a composite sketch, Darby said.
Investigators looked at other cases and isolated two similar incidents - one on Oct. 19, the other on Oct. 20 - that happened on or just off Kensington Avenue in an alley. In both cases, the victims were also beaten about the head and face.
"He really pummels these girls," Darby said. "The level of violence is obviously what has us concerned."
The attacker is described as a dark-skinned black man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 11, with a mustache, a light beard and in one instance, eyeglasses.
