Eight-year-old twin girls were injured - one critically - by a hit-and-run driver in the city's Crescentville section yesterday afternoon, police said.
The incident occurred about 3:40 p.m. on Colgate Street at Cheltenham Avenue, police said.
Eryca and Kaitlyn Bradfield were crossing Colgate when a gray Lincoln Town Car struck both.
One was run over, and had tire tracks on her clothing over her midsection, police said. The other girl was knocked down and less seriously injured.
Police said several witnesses ran after the Lincoln, which was going south on Colgate, and were able to get a license plate number.
Investigators tracked the license plate to a car in Northeast Philadelphia matching the witnesses' descriptions and have questioned the owner, police said. No arrest was immediately reported.
Both girls were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Police said the girl who was run over was initially listed in critical condition and was in surgery, but that her injuries were not life-threatening.
A hospital spokeswoman said that Kaitlyn was admitted in serious condition, but had no information about Eryca.
The girls live on Cheltenham Avenue near the accident scene and apparently were crossing the street to go to a store, police said.
