MARGATE, N.J. - Wind has caused at least $45,000 in damage to Lucy the Elephant, the 65-foot-tall Jersey Shore landmark.
Strong winds last month uprooted a tent that hit the elephant, damaging 86 tin panels and its 14-foot tail. The tourist attraction's insurance has a $25,000 deductible for wind damage, executive director Rich Helfant says.
The tail has been bandaged while officials look for ways to repair the elephant, which a real estate developer built in 1881. - AP
