U. Dublin's LuLu site protected from development

Upper Dublin Township has acquired conservation easement rights to the 115-acre LuLu Country Club in Oreland, Township Manager Paul Leonard said yesterday. The $2 million purchase means that the property, on Limekiln Pike near Twining Road, will be protected from subdivision and development, Leonard said. The parcel consists of an 18-hole golf course designed by Donald Ross and the Fitzwater House, a historic building.

Leonard said the land would be bought with money set aside through public referendums in 2007 and 2009 for open-space acquisition. The tract constitutes about a third of the recreational space left in the township.

The Fitzwater House will be offered for sale by the club to an owner who will preserve and adapt it for reuse. The township will participate in the sale "both in a financial and cooperative arrangement," Leonard said. - Bonnie L. Cook
