Phila. police identify three slaying victims

Philadelphia police yesterday identified three slaying victims and announced two arrests.

Arceno Jones, 25, of West Philadelphia, was found shot multiple times at 11 a.m. Monday near 64th and Callowhill Streets. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Police said they had arrested Shirvin McGarrell, 22, of the 5000 block of Kershaw Street, and Shay Odom, 20, of the 6100 block of Callowhill Street, in connection with the shooting, which might have stemmed from an argument.

Police said the man who was fatally wounded about 8 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of West Norris Street in North Philadelphia was Jose Rivera, 44, of Nicetown. Rivera died at Temple University Hospital of gunshot wounds to the chest and back. No arrests were reported.

The last shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. yesterday in the 2500 block of North Colorado Street in North Philadelphia. Police responding to the scene found James Stansbury, 23, on the ground with gunshot wounds to the back and right leg. He was taken to Temple Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m. Police reported no arrests.
