Donald Resnick, 72, of Wyncote, was sentenced yesterday in federal court to almost three years in federal prison in connection with a scheme to steal $1 million by redeeming grocery-store coupons.

Authorities said that Resnick's scheme played out over 17 years and that he also stiffed the IRS of more than $80,000 in taxes he owed on proceeds from the scheme between 2002 and 2006. (Resnick has paid back about $35,000 of the taxes.)

U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick also ordered Resnick to make restitution of more than $980,000 to about 50 victims.

Bar protests suspended city pay

The Philadelphia Bar Association has sent a letter to Mayor Nutter protesting the suspension of payments by the city to bar members who serve as court-appointed lawyers and arbitrators.

The city informed the bar that such payments would be suspended because of the lack of state funding caused by the budget impasse in Harrisburg. In a letter to members, the Bar urged the lawyers and arbitrators to continue doing their jobs for at least 30 more days while Bar officials try to find a solution to the problem.

Conservation Corps launched

The Walmart Foundation and Student Conservation Association, together with the Friends of the Wissahickon, Philadelphia Youth Network and Sustainable Business Network, has announced the launch of the Conservation Leadership Corps program to engage 50 local high- school students in conservation service, environmental education, and green jobs training in the Philadelphia region.

Camden shooting victim ID'd
