The sister of Staff Sgt. Marc J. Small, an Army Special Forces medic from Collegeville who was killed in Afghanistan in February, has organized a charity run in his memory.

Proceeds from the 5-kilometer run, scheduled for Saturday in Eagleville, will benefit a charity that Small's fiancee, Amanda Charney, started for children with speech and development disorders, said Megan MacFarland, Small's sister.

Small, 29, who graduated in 1997 from Methacton High School in Worcester Township, was killed in combat on his first tour of duty when insurgents attacked his unit in Faramuz. Small had been helping Afghan children and adults by giving them medical supplies and free clinics, MacFarland said.

The run will begin and end at the Lower Providence Township Building, 30 Parklane Dr. Race-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the race starting at 8:30. The registration fee is $25. For more information, and to register, visit www.lowerprovidence.org. - Max Stendahl
