Motorists can expect delays for the next month along a busy portion of Conshohocken State Road in Lower Merion Township while Peco Energy Co. upgrades a large underground natural-gas main, requiring the closure of one lane.
Construction began late last week near Green Valley Road, said Peco spokesman Michael Wood. A flagger will divert traffic around the construction during the month that the utility expects the $255,000 project to last.
Rather than excavating old pipe, the utility is installing a woven fabric liner into the existing 16-inch steel main that will restore it to its original strength and eliminate frequent leaks, said Wood. The trenchless technology requires less time and less digging, he said. - Andrew Maykuth
