Lansdale man dead in alleged murder-suicide

A man is dead and his wife in critical condition after an apparent murder-suicide attempt in Lansdale last Friday, according to a statement released yesterday by the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Cathy Cressman, 57, fatally shot her estranged husband, Joseph, 60, in the head and then turned the gun on herself while the two sat in front of their home in his pickup truck, the statement read.

Joseph Cressman, of Collins Avenue near Hartley Drive, had been married to his wife for 37 years, but recently moved out, sending his wife into an emotional downward spiral, the statement said.

The Cressmans were school-bus drivers for North Penn School District.

On the day of the shooting, she bought a Rossi Interarms .38-caliber revolver, the statement said. Authorities say, the two had plans to meet for dinner that night, but at about 6:45, she shot him, then herself.

Cressman's husband was taken to Lansdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon after. She was in critical condition at Abington Memorial Hospital yesterday. *
