Playing ball with the FBI
The third annual Strawberry Mansion FBI Community event and softball game will be held tomorrow at the Mander Playground, 3300 Diamond St.
Starting at noon there will be displays of specialized FBI units and social service information booths from the community partners, and at 2 p.m. there will be a rematch softball game between the FBI softball team and the Strawberry Mansion All-Star Baseball League adult coaches and parents.
SEPTA fixing 2 bridges
SEPTA was to begin work today on two of the R5 Lansdale regional rail line bridges. The 1930's-era bridge adjacent to North Hills Station over North Hills Avenue has deteriorated over the years and crews will repair bridge fascia and concrete in addition to installing new waterproofing and other elements on the structure.
Work also will begin on the SEPTA bridge over Valley Road near Melrose Park Station. Extensive joint repair and new waterproofing installed to improve the durability of the structure.
Pa. aide visiting training site
Sandi Vito, Pennsylvania secretary of labor and industry, will tour the Weatherization Training program at the Laborers' District Council Education and Training Facility at 500 Lancaster Pike, Exton, tomorrow.
Vito will be touring the facility in anticipation of its grand opening this summer. It will train workers who will use funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for weatherization projects.
Tonight, war on mosquitoes
The state Department of Environmental Protection, in coordination with the West Nile virus staff in Bucks County, will apply treatments this evening to control adult mosquito populatons in Neshaminy State Park. Certain mosquito species carry the virus, which can cause West Nile encephalitis in humans.
Coast Guard rescues 2
Two people stranded on a personal watercraft in Nantuxent Creek, near Newport, N.J., were found uninjured by Coast Guard rescue crews after they had been reported missing Saturday night. They were spotted by a rescue helicopter and taken aboard a Coast Guard boat crew. They were returned to their nearby home. The pair were not identified. *
