Commodore Barry Bridge closing 4 hours Saturday

The Commodore Barry Bridge will be closed between 12:01 and 4 a.m. Saturday while PennDOT crews dismantle two light fixtures, officials said.

The overhead structures, which support the illuminated signs that indicate closed lanes, must be removed to build two elevated bridge ramps in Chester. They will be returned when the project is completed in the summer of 2011, said Gene Blaum, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman.

There also will be two 15-minute traffic stoppages on the bridge between midnight and 5 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said. The $71.1 million construction project is intended to provide direct access between I-95 and Route 291. - Matthew Spolar
