The new Route 179 (Bridge Street) Bridge over the Delaware Canal in New Hope will open to two-way traffic this afternoon, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
The concrete adjacent box-beam bridge replaces the steel-beam bridge built in 1950. Starting Oct. 27, the bridge was built in two stages, and southbound traffic was detoured. Crews still have some work to do under the bridge and in the canal, PennDot district executive Lester C. Toaso said. - Inquirer staff
